Project Overview
The French Villa is a 120-year-old heritage home located in the serene hills of Mussoorie. Originally built during the British era, the structure was aged, neglected, and in dire need of restoration. The client envisioned a transformation that preserved its vintage charm while introducing modern functionality and warmth.
Inspired by the elegance of a French château, the design takes cues from European classical architecture, while embracing the rustic character of the hills. Every surface, corner, and detail was rebuilt, repurposed, or revived turning this abandoned shell into a refined mountain home.
Design Language
This project balances heritage preservation with contemporary comfort, merging old-world French elegance with modern mountain living.
- Interiors: High arched doors, warm wall lights, and period tile flooring reminiscent of old European estates

Furniture: Clean-lined wooden furniture with black finishes and subtle French details

Palette: Muted whites, rustic black borders, antique gold accents, and natural wood tones

Lighting: Classic chandeliers mixed with modern pendant lighting for a layered glow

Layout Transformation: Spaces were reimagined from their original shell, with derelict rooms transformed into a functional workspace, library, and lounge

Outdoor Connection: The renovation preserved the essence of the villa’s colonial façade while making it livable year-round
